Supporting Operation Walk Winnipeg

Packing for Operation Walk

This fall, November 8-15, Dr. Thomas Turgeon, Medical Director of Operation Walk Winnipeg, will lead a team of surgeons, nurses, physiotherapists and other staff from Concordia Hospital and the Concordia Joint Research Group (CJRG) will travel to Nicaragua on their own personal time to provide 50-55 free knee replacements to poor patients with end stage arthritis who have little hope of relief and regaining their mobility without the team’s help.

Over the past two years, over 70 patients have benefited from this mission.  The 2012 mission was the subject of a Winnipeg Free Press article and video series.

Operation Walk Winnipeg holds many fundraisers through the year to help pay for travel and other expenses for the trip.  For more information on how you can support this great cause, visit the Concordia Foundation’s Operation Walk Winnipeg webpage.

The Orthopaedic Innovation Centre (OIC) is pleased to be one of many generous supporters of the 2014 Operation Walk mission by providing use of $100,000 of battery powered surgical tools.
