The London based Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) celebrated it’s engineering visionaries at their Vision Awards on Sep 24. The Institution has over 100,000 members in more than 140 countries, working at the heart of the most important and dynamic industries.
The Institution’s prestigious 2013 Thomas Hawksley Gold Medal, for the best original papers published by the Institution during the past 12 months, was awarded to the authors of the paper, ‘Clinical failure analysis of contemporary ceramic-on-ceramic total hip replacements’: Jan-M Brandt, Trevor C Gascoyne, Leah E Guenther, Andrew Allen, David R Hedden, Thomas R Turgeon and Eric R Bohm. A culmination of work performed primarily within the Orthopaedic Innovation Centre (OIC) implant retrieval analysis program and supported by the Concordia Joint Research Group, both of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the paper was published in Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine, Vol 227(8), 2013, pp 833-846.
